BIO

My name is Rachel Billings, and I'm an independent filmmaker originally from Bronxville, New York and now based in New York City. Creating stories is all I've ever wanted to do with my life. After exploring poetry, fiction, theater, and journalism for many years, I fell in love with filmmaking while studying at Kenyon College.

Since graduating in 2022, I've written, directed, produced, and co-edited two short films: Teen Gay Fairytale and Nothing Changes Here. My pilot script, Pecan Falls, was selected for the Imagine This Women's International Film Festival in 2023. I'm currently developing an experimental dramedy called Cartoonish.

My brand as a filmmaker is defined by style and intention rather than genre, subject matter, or industry trends. My stories dig into the messy corners of our minds through quirky characters and dialogue that will make you laugh one minute, then cry the next. I emphatically believe in the power of indie filmmaking and fostering collaborations that prioritize respect, fairness, and creative innovation.

I additionally freelance as a Producer, Production Coordinator, Office Assistant, and Production Assistant for union and non-union projects. I am also a second-round script reader for the Austin Film Festival.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, playing the New York Times words games, hanging out with friends, and snuggling with my tabby cat, Winston.
