ABOUT ME

My name is Rachel Billings (she/they), and I'm an independent filmmaker, Production Coordinator, and Production Manager, originally from Westchester, NY and now based in New York City.

After graduating from Kenyon College in 2022 with a BA in English, I began freelancing as a Production Assistant while continuing to write scripts and doing just about every other side hustle that I could. 

In 2023, my first hour-long pilot script, Pecan Falls, was selected for the Imagine This Women's International Film Festival. In 2024, I wrote, directed, co-produced, and co-edited my debut short film, Teen Gay Fairytale, which premiered at Big Apple Film Festival in May 2026. I'm currently writing a mixed-medium dramedy feature called Cartoonish, and I have a few other script ideas in development.

My brand as a filmmaker is defined by style, rather than genre or subject matter. My stories dig into the messy corners of our minds through absurd concepts, quirky characters, and dialogue that will make you laugh one minute, then cry the next. I emphatically believe in the power of indie filmmaking and fostering collaborations that prioritize respect, fairness, and creative innovation. 
 

As for my freelance production work, I have either assisted on or coordinated a wide variety of scripted and unscripted projects, both for independent filmmakers and high-profile clients like Netflix, Amazon, Warner Bros., Sony, Apple TV+, CBS, IBM, Bloomberg, Ebony Magazine, Benjamin Moore, and Gilead Sciences. I was also previously a second-round script reader for Austin Film Festival.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, playing guitar, doing the New York Times word games, exploring NYC restaurants with friends, and snuggling with my tabby cat, Winston.​
